Making a Magical Cup of Coffee
From your morning cup o’ Joe, to caramel macchiatos, even coffee ice cream and martinis, coffee has enchanted the world with its flavors and benefits. But what about a magically crafted coffee brew?
Dawn Aurora of Cucina Aurora has upped the game with her new line of coffee – fittingly called Witch’s Brew (a name your gal at WitchCraft Cocktails can get behind) – that’s made with seasonal, corresponding ingredients, so that you can effortlessly add an extra bit of magic to your morning brew. I recently had a chance to try her Spring Brew with the enticing aromas of lavender and blueberry, – and I will just say – I am in L.O.V.E.
(Take a look at these delicious, magically aligned olive oils and this Witchy Woman Apron she offers, too!)
I learned about this new offering on her lovely podcast, the Cucina Aurora Kitchen Witchery – Conversational Witchcraft Podcast, and just had to try it out! I had such a blast on her show, too. Go ahead and give it a listen (put it on in the background while you make and enjoy your drink) and check out her other episodes while you are there!
Inspired by these peaceful and enchanting aromas, I just HAD to make a cocktail with this delicious coffee! Be sure to grab your Spring Brew (while you still can), and let’s jump on in to the drink ingredients, or skip ahead to the coffee cocktail or iced coffee recipe.
Ingredients and Tools
When it comes to the flavor of this sweet coffee concoction, the balance and magic of each ingredient plays an important role. Read on to uncover the various ingredients, what each of them adds flavor-wise and energetically, and what tools you might need to make this magical coffee drink, or skip to the recipe below.
- Fresh Blackberry
Just in time for its harvest from May until September, this luscious berry makes a subtle appearance in the base of this enticing, sweet coffee concoction. Associated in magical practices with the planet Venus, this bountiful berry enhances the sensual, lusty, and healing energies of this drink. And for those looking for a Beltane or Summer Solstice beverage, the blackberry in this concoction is perfect for connecting with fairy energy!

Adding a hint of warmth and spice to this magical mixture, ground cardamom is also associated with the planet Venus, and furthers the sensual, loving energies of this concoction. Ground cardamom from your local grocery store should work fine here!
- Rose-Vanilla Simple Syrup
What better way to compliment the floral coffee, than with enticing rose and soothing vanilla? Both ruled by Venus, these two enhance the loving, peaceful vibes in this coffee concoction. Don’t let the title dissuade you – rose-vanilla simple syrup is easy to make! Just pour 1/2 cup hot water over 1 tablespoon dried rose petals (you can find rose tea at the grocery store, if need be!) and 1-inch slice of vanilla bean. Let steep for 5 minutes, then add in 1/2 cup of sugar. If you are trying the alcoholic rendition of this drink, you can also substitute 1/2 ounce of the syrup in the cocktail for 1/2 ounce rose liqueur.
You can’t have a coffee concoction without, well, coffee! The inspiration for this very drink, is of course, none other than Cucina Aurora’s Spring Coffee Brew, which adds a little subtle, extra touch of lavender and blueberry magic to our beverage. Ruled by Mars, coffee imparts active energy to both our minds and bodies, and has even been used in some witchcraft practices for divination. Beyond being the most essential ingredient to this cocktail, it helps add that fiery flare of awakening and inspiration to our coffee concoction.
- Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
An essential for the nonalcoholic iced coffee version (and optional for the alcoholic rendition), Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk helps balance the floral rose flavors, with the boldness of the coffee. It also furthers the vanilla and almond energies mentioned elsewhere in this post!
- Amaretto (Cocktail) or Almond Extract (Non-Alcoholic)
Complimenting that traditional coffee aroma and bringing energy of prosperity, wisdom, and romance, adding just a tad of almond flavoring imparts a woodsy and nutty aroma to our concoction. If making the nonalcoholic version, you will be using almond extract, whereas cocktailers will enjoy the addition of amaretto to this coffee martini. While it is traditionally thought of as an almond liqueur, this is not always the case – this sweet, lightly nutty Italian liqueur is sometimes made with apricot pits, or a combination of both. Nonetheless, apricot is associated with Venus and love and peace, so its energy is a great compliment to this drink anyway!
- Vodka (For the alcoholic version)
And for the final ingredient in this coffee martini, you will need just a bit of vodka! When it comes to vodka, using a clean and crisp spirit is usually best, that way it doesn’t interfere with the flavor balance. However, always do what is best for your budget!
- Tools
What kind of tools might you need to enjoy this sweet, luscious coffee concoction? If you are making the nonalcoholic version, you’re in luck! All you will need (besides something to make coffee), is a measuring device (such as a jigger or even converting ounces to cups table/teaspoons), something to muddle the blackberries (such as a wooden spoon, or a muddler like this), and your cup! For the alcoholic rendition, you will additionally need something with which to shake your drink (like a Boston shaker), and a hawthorn and/or a mesh strainer.
And that’s it! Once you have everything you need, it’s time to dive in and make this drink.
