A Magical Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade

There’s nothing quite like a little color change for feeling magical. But if you’re a bit mystical, you’d be please to know this recipe is great as a lunar lemonade. Not only is lemon associated with cleansing and uplifting, and coconut with nurturing, spirituality, and psychic ability, but they BOTH also associated with the moon. The color-changing properties of butterfly pea flower symbolizes transition and change, and feminine energy (like the phases of the moon). Lavender lends energies of peace and intuition, and soda water helps dilute the recipe and give it a sparkling, bubbly touch to raise our intentions.

So whether you’re simply in the mood for magical lemonade, or looking to connect with the feminine, mystical, and transformational power of the moon, this butterfly pea flower lemonade is just the drink you need!

Substitutions

While you can totally forego the coconut milk and just stick to a traditional lemonade, it creates a more gradual color change while softening and smoothing the acidity of the fresh lemon.

This recipe integrates butterfly pea flower through a simple syrup that is ready within 10 minutes. It includes optional lavender for more flavor dynamic, but you can also go without. You can find the syrup recipe here, or otherwise craft a butterfly pea flower syrup by steeping it in hot water for 5-10 minutes, and then stirring in an equal amount of sugar.

Notes

This recipe integrates butterfly pea flower through a syrup, linked in the recipe. It includes optional lavender for more flavor dynamic, but you can also just really easily craft a butterfly pea flower syrup by steeping 1 tablespoon of it in hot water for 5-10 minutes, and then stirring in an equal amount of sugar. The longer it steeps, the stronger the color–if it has not steeped enough, it may not have as strong colors.
