Magical Ingredients for a Liquid Gold Drink
While this luscuious gold drink is a showstopper on looks and taste alone, it’s also inspired by the magic of ingredients — a little sparkle for the body and the spirit.
Expansive, fire-associated ingredients like allspice, nutmeg, and clove invite Jupiter’s blessings for luck and money. Juicy pineapple and alluring honey adds the solar, hospitality energy of summer for community and successful connections (and the color we want for a liquid gold cocktail). The main spirit of this golden drink is amaretto, an almond-flavored liqueur that adds money, prosperity, wisdom and success to the potion. Sometimes, amaretto is also made using apricot pits, in which case your liquid luck potion will have added magic for gaining favor and attraction. You have the option of dark rum, which is infused with spices, for added depth and a delicious, gold rum cocktail.
- lemon
- honey syrup*
- ground Allspice
- ground Nutmeg
- ground Clove
- pineapple
- amaretto
- dark rum
For a magical touch, I recommend adding edible cocktail glitter for a luscious, gold dust drink.
Gold Mocktail Nonalcoholic Substitutions
With the explosion of zero alcohol spirits the last few years, it’s very easy to make a delicious nonalcoholic version. And, if you don’t have access to these zero-proof spirits, I also tested a tea option that should be accessible for everyone!
For nonalcoholic spirits, I used:
- Lyre’s Dark Cane Spirit (I’m a bit fan of many of their spirits)
- Beckett’s ’27 Non-Alcoholic Amaretto (I’ve also tried their Non-Alcoholic Coconut rum and it is the best NA sub I’ve tasted)
I’ve also heard good things about Lyre’s Amaretti.
Instead of nonalcoholic spirits, you can also use chai tea. Since it is darker than amaretto, it may be more brown than gold-colored.
- For a tea substitute: Steep 1 bag chai tea in 1/2 cup hot water. Chill and use 1.5-2 ounces of tea instead of amaretto and rum and increase by the honey syrup 1/4-1/2 ounce
