With the release of Wednesday Season 2 and the start of spooky season, the Addams family is back on center stage.
But beyond the new series, the Addams family has always represented embracing the macabre and our inner eccentricities. They stand in dark, solemn contrast to the “bright” traditional nuclear family and societal expectations. Inspired by everything Addams, this Black Heart drink recipe is a toast to our inner weirdo.

A Wednesday & Addams Family-Inspired Cocktail
Celebrate your eccentricities, spooky-style with this sweet, spicy and herbal drink recipe. This cherry, Chile and rose black cocktail is a celebration of passion and all things spicy and occult.
Agave, cherry, and rose echo the iconic, passionate marriage between Morticia and Gomez Addams. Lime and orange uplifts the energy for a bit of uncanny luck, Gomez-style. Dried red chile balances the sweet with a bit of heat—reminiscent of the family’s “spicy” sharp edge to repel.
Cocktail enjoyers can add a bit of absinthe for spirit communication and visions (just like Wednesday in the new show).
Nonalcoholic sippers can use their choice of nonalcoholic tequila substitute or soda water. And with a mixture of blue curaçao, red and yellow-green ingredients, the drink turns black—a perfect, bold color for the iconic Addams family and embracing your inner eccentricities.
Achieving the Black Color
The black color of this cocktail is a balance between the blue curaçao, red cherry juice, and lime. Depending on the brand of your ingredients, you may need to adjust the increments to get the color you want.
Start with less, and add more increment by increment. If the recipe is too blue, add more cherry. Too reddish-brown? You might need more blue curaçao.
If you do not have access to blue curaçao, you can also use food coloring to get the desired color.
Making a Nonalcoholic Black Heart Drink
For a mocktail version of the drink recipe, I used Ritual Nonalcoholic Agave Spirit. However, you can substitute this with soda water—just make sure to add it at the very end, after shaking and straining the glass.
Alternatively, you can also double the recipe instead of using a nonalcoholic replacement.

A Touch of Addams Romance: Sparkling Rose Ice Cubes
Few on-screen loves are as iconic as Morticia and Gomez. For added flavor and an eye-catching garnish, you can freeze the cherry juice with black cocktail glitter in rose ice cubes—the symbol of their love.
If using these rose cubes, ideally use a wide glass (I used these ones)—the rose cube can flip upside down in a deep glass.
