Ingredient Inspiration

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this margarita and wine cocktail, and how they relate to the movie:

• Rosemary – As Sally Owens says, “keep rosemary by your garden gate”
• Coconut water – for the famous coconut song that plays during the Practical Magic margarita scene
• Lime – a margarita essential
• Agave nectar/syrup – another margarita MUST, as it pairs well with agave-based spirits
• Phantom Wine Chardonnay – a crisp and delicious white wine that makes for the perfect wine based margarita. You can check out a ginger beer wine spritzer recipe I crafted with their Chardonnay here.
• Blanco Tequila – Blanco tequila pairs best with the wine
• Optional: orange curaçao or liqueur are another margarita essential. Triple sec works but will add more sweetness. But if you’re all out, it’s OK to do without!
• Optional: Lavender bitters – as the movie says, “plant lavender for luck.” Lavender bitters were the easiest way to get lavender into this recipe, but if you don’t have them, feel free to forego. My go-to lavender bitters at the moment is All The Bitter (code WCC for 10% off).

Midnight Wine Margarita Recipe

Ritualizing the Recipe

For those with a witchier inclination, here’s how to make each step of the recipe with intention:

1. Rim glass with salt, a circle of protection. To do so, rub half a lime along the outer rim of your glass. Then dip into salt. The juice from the lime wedge should adhere the salt to the outer lip. 
2. In your shaker, de-sprig the rosemary by pinching the top of the sprig(s) and dragging downwards, opposite the grain. This will separate the leaves from the stem. You can visualize stripping away any hexes or bad energy, like the Owens family breaking their curse. Drop the rosemary leaves into the shaker and discard the stem.
3. If desired, sprinkle in salt (perhaps over your left shoulder).
4. Add coconut water for the moon, then lime. Sweeten with agave nectar/syrup.
5. Add Phantom Wine Chardonnay and tequila to your witch’s brew, then lavender and orange liqueur for some luck.
6. Add ice and shake. Strain over ice into your prepared glass. Garnish with your choice of rosemary or lavender sprig to enchant your senses with each sip.
