Blue Moon Drink Butterfly Pea flower Cocktail

Blue Moon Visions

A blue moon cocktail with butterfly pea flower for a magical color-changing effect from deep blue, to violet. Inspired by the blue moon, this floral, light, slightly sweet grapefruit and spiced butterfly pea flower tea cocktail is accompanied with a tea leaf reading for some blue moon magic, to see what fortune this rare occasion has in store for you! Includes options for a nonalcoholic version.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp butterfly pea flower
  • 1 tsp dried rose petals
  • 1/8 tsp ground clove
  • 3 ounces hot water
  • 1.5 ounces grapefruit juice, freshly squeezes
  • 3/4 ounce lavender simple syrup (see recipe below)
  • 1 ounce gin (skip for nonalcoholic drink)
  • 1/4-1/2 ounces elderflower liqueur (skip for nonalcoholic drink)
  • 1/8 ounce absinthe (optional; skip for nonalcoholic drink or if you don't like anise-like flavor)

Lavender Simple Syrup

  • 1 tsp dried lavender
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
 

Lavender Simple Syrup

  • Set hot water to boil. Meanwhile, place lavender in jar or syrup container.
  • Pour hot water over lavender, and let steep for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in sugar until dissolved.

Blue Moon Visions Drink

  • Set hot water to boil. Meanwhile, place butterfly pea flower, rose, ground clove, and syrup into tempered mug of choice. Pour in hot water, and let steep for 5 minutes.
  • Add in grapefruit for color change, and elderflower liqueur and gin. If partaking in the blue moon magic tea ritual, add hint of abinsthe.
  • For a chilled shaken cocktail, transfer everything into a shaker with ice and double strain into a stemmed glass.
  • Garnish with a floating assortment of floral, edible herbs in a crescent moon shape.
